A nursery you can pick up

The problem

Nursery websites tend to look the same: stock smiles, a fees PDF and a phone number. We set ourselves a brief: show what a small local business gets when its site behaves like the place itself, and can take a booking at eleven at night.

What we did

  1. Made the page from four honest materials: beech, wool felt, lacquered rubber and plasticine, lit by one window light that drifts from morning to lamplight as you scroll. One scroll is one nursery day.

  2. Gave every toy a job. Blocks land on the headline, drawers slide out to show the rooms, a bead rides a wire through the day.

  3. Built a real booking portal behind it: sign-up, visit booking, session planning, invoices and a staff view, with letters landing in an in-app inbox and payments in demo mode.

  4. Gave every visitor a private sandbox that erases itself after 30 days, so the demo is real without keeping anyone’s data.

Screens

  • The parent dashboard of the demo: no visit booked yet, next week’s sessions for one child, a balance to pay, the latest diary entry and an inbox with two unread letters.

  • Choosing a time for a show-round visit: one slot full, one with three places left and a waitlist, beside a summary card holding the chosen time.
    02Booking a visit
  • The session planner: a calendar, a choice of none, morning, afternoon or full day for each weekday, and a running monthly estimate.

  • An invoice marked as a demo, with card, bank transfer and Tax-Free Childcare payment options, each labelled demo, and a note that no money moves.
